Obituary for Allan Louis Gant, DO

Allan Louis Gant, DO, 75, of Richwood, WV passed away on June 1, 2022, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

Allan was a graduate of Alderson-Broaddus College and the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. He was a Vietnam veteran (1968-1969), serving as a Navy Corpsman with 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines with Golf company, recipient of the Navy Commendation Medal with Valor and Purple Heart for actions taken on April 21, 1969.

Allan was a dedicated “old school” family physician to his fellow West Virginians in Boone and Nicholas counties. He cared for all, regardless of the ability to pay, often being paid through gifts of produce and livestock, and was no stranger to house calls in the coal fields, or treating sick children, and those injured, in his home in the middle of the night. He had a love of muscle cars, as well as hunting, fishing, gardening and, of course, his grandchildren.

Allan was a loving, doting Paw-Paw to his grandchildren, who knew him as the best pancake maker. He loved to fish and take his boat out with his children, grandson, and fishing buddy Jake. He could also often be found working in his garden, fussing over his fruits and vegetables. He was much loved by his family and will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

Allan is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Hazel Gant, and Nancy, his wife of 47 years. He is survived by his brother, Peter (Teresa) of Elkview; son David (Melissa) of Morgantown, son Matthew (Heather) of Huntington, daughter Rebekah (James) of Yelm, Washington; grandsons Joshua and Jacob, granddaughters Allison, Allyson, and Audrey, and many nephews and nieces.

Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA at a future date to be set by Arlington National Cemetery and family, where he will be laid to rest with his wife, beside his comrades in arms.

The family is asking that in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations be made to the PTSD Association of America (, or the WVSOM Foundation ( in honor of Allan Gant, DO.
